XY Mike Zhou (b.1994)
XY Mike Zhou is a NY-based composer who infuses pop genres into his concert music. Zhou earned his Bachelor in Music in Saxophone Performance and Master of Music in Composition from the New England Conservatory, where he studied composition with John Mallia and Michael Gandolfi, saxophone with Kenneth Radnofsky, and jazz with Brian Levy. He also studied composition privately with Dan Bar-Hava and David Ludwig and saxophone with Paul Cohen.
Zhou’s music has been performed throughout Asia, Europe, and North America. Recent events include performances at the Atlantic Music Festival, Ball State University New Music Festival, Belvedere Chamber Music Festival, Cascade Conducting Composers Workshop, Impulse New Music Festival, N.E.O. Sounds, Sofia Symphonic Summit, soundSCAPE Festival, and Tutti Festival. He has also collaborated with and received commissions from the Brightwork Ensemble, Four Corners Ensemble, Hypercube Ensemble, and Sofia Philharmonic.
Upcoming projects include participation in the 2025 Connecticut Summerfest, where he will work with Sugar Hill Salon. He will also collaborate on new pieces with saxophonist Paul Nolen and recordings for pianist Yixiang Hou in 2025.
Zhou is a member of ASCAP and self-publishes his music from XY Zhou Music (ASCAP).
